Several main roads, including Jalan Nyabor and Jalan Central, were submerged. Among the affectec buildings were the Sarawak House Shopping Complex, two international hotels, a petrol station and few shoplots.
Heavy rain and flood waters overflowing from the Upper Rejang river have worsened the situation. An official at the state flood operations room said that the river had remained above the alert level for the past four days.
